Imagine Strong Beacons of Hope

In this first episode of the Arise-Canada podcast, Adrian Faber sits down with Hildy Sloots and Erica Schutten to discuss the development and mission of Arise- Canada. The episode delves into the why, who, and how of Arise-Canada, shedding light on the vision and purpose behind the ministry. Adrian, Erica, and Hildy each give an introduction towards themselves and the work they are doing in creating resources to support and strengthen churches in effectively caring for their congregations through Arise.

Hildy, in particular, shares her personal journey and experiences that led to the development of Arise-Canada. One of the key themes that emerge throughout the episode is the importance of sustainability in church care. There is such a need for churches to move beyond short-term responses and towards long-term, sustainable care for their members. Hildy connects her own experiences with this and she highlights the vision of seeing churches joyfully and confidently caring for their congregations, displaying God's character through their actions.

We delve into an introduction of some of the components of how we serve through Arise, introducing the concept of advocates within churches. These would be individuals chosen to facilitate and ensure the implementation of care. Erica explains the role of the Director of Advocates and how the Director of Advocates would be an Arise team member who would support churches in developing and maintaining effective care through the equipping and support of advocates.

The practical work and realization of work with churches has to come from a mutual vision for the strengthening of churches, flowing from a collaborative nature of Arise-Canada, emphasizing the importance of churches working together to strengthen the body of Christ. We also discuss the various ways in which Arise Canada serves churches, including workshops, collaborative gatherings, access to resources through the Care Hub, and the differences between formal and informal relationship with Arise.

A key takeaway from the episode is the vision of seeing the church community functioning properly, with members supporting and caring for one another in Christ's love. Hildy expresses the hope that through Arise Canada, churches can become beacons of light and hope in their communities, demonstrating Christ's love through their actions.
